Ya, it's winter, I realize that. I STILL use sunless tanners tho. (at least where I show skin during the winter:) Besides the fact that summer will be here before you know it. SO. You probably remember my review of sunless tanning lotions awhile back. Well...I found my fav and thought I'd share. Sun Laboratories Tan Overnight Self Tanner can be found on amazon HERE. (They also have a bigger 32 oz bottle for $39.95).

But it's a salon self tanner that, so far to me, can't be beat.

So this winter, (tho I've seen NO snow this season), has dried my lips up like prunes!

Even my fancy shmancy herbal chap stick from Sally's looks awful on my flaking lips.

I had-had enough!

Thankfully Shana and Elizabeth shared this easy DIY tip!

I used this two days in a row (because they needed it THAT bad) and my lips are quite fabulous. (But not only that...I had a hard time wiping it off because it tastes so darn good).

3 ingredients!

Just grab some brown sugar, organic honey, and organic olive oil.

I made enough that I put the unused leftovers in these travel size containers I had on hand.

(found at Walmart 2 for $1 - for like homemade lipgloss etc).

And of course we all know that presentation is EVERYTHING. SO I hot-glued on a flower and tied jute twine around them. (NO, the containers don't come that way)

Talk about EASY friend favors during the holidays that are adorable and original!

(and even edible, if they're the snacky kind! teehee)

Maybe send a little tag attached that says something cheesy like this:

Swirl it on your lips,

just a gentle rub.

And enjoy your homemade

organic lip scrub.

Mummies and Snowmen

So every Sunday, we have a candlelight dinner to make it more "reverent' (tho I might add, that my kids just race to eat their food the fastest so they can blow the candles out).

I saw these mason jar mummies on Pinterest, and HAD to make them for October's Sunday dinners. I took some white crape paper streamers and I tore them (lengthwise) in an unmanaged manor and then wrapped up my mason jars and glued on googly eyes.

Put tea lights inside and it's simple enough.

So for December, we (my kids and I) decided to make snowmen. This time I didn't tear the crape paper streamers and just wrapped up the mason jars. (not too thick because you want the tea light to shine through)

Then add your accessories.

I'm wishing I would have made some turkeys for November. It's a fun way to change up our candles for Sunday dinner, but also great for party decor, and table center pieces this weekend!

One of the most BRILLIANT things I've ever seen...(I like glittery things) is to take THESE mosaic mirror tiles and glue them back to back and hang them in your tree before the ornaments go on. This will quadruple your tree light :)

And finally...I give you the pleasure of sipping on this for the holidays:

1 gallon of apple juice (100% apple juice)

½ gallon of pineapple juice

1 cinnamon stick

5 clove pieces

½ t. nutmeg

1 orange, sliced

juice of 1 lemon

½ c. sugar

Combine all ingredients in a big pot on the stove and simmer for 2-3 hours. Or in a large crock pot for 2 hours on high, then turn to low or ‘keep warm’ and can be left on all day.

(My favorite method is in the crock pot.) Recipe from Helen Robinson of Canyon, Texas.."

Lovable and Livable Homes

It's like keeping up on your house in 15 minutes a day! I'm on top of the world right now! (Well at least on 'top' of my house). I've discovered that I can keep my house clean with minimal effort. No...SERIOUSLY. I'm not joking.

I've always had days where I look at my house and I think to myself...there is NO POSSIBLE WAY that ANYONE can keep their house clean all the time. It's like this illusion that the world has set to make you think that it's NOT normal to have a messy house. And after time, I knew it was a lie (unless you have a house maid). So let me share a little secret with you.

A secret I hope you'll share with everyone you know.

All you have to do is schedule a task to accomplish

each day of the week.

MONDAY: I vacuum the whole house and swiffer mop the hard floors. (I realize that once a week isn't always often enough, especially with little children. So vacuum when needed but do the WHOLE house on this day) Then, we also have FHE (Family Home Evening) Where we sit together as a family, have family prayer, have a family song, have a spiritual family lesson and then we either have an activity or a treat, (or both).

TUESDAY: Laundry day. I put my laundry day, on a day of the week, when my husband is gone all day for school. I get it done and do it right.

WEDNESDAY: Everyone hates dusting so I've heard, including myself. But I've discovered that Wednesday is a day I look forward to because instead of dusting being an added extra chore that you dont have time for, now it's one of the easiest days of my week and it gets done right.

THURSDAY: I'm one of those gals who seems to try on a lot of outfits and makes a mess of my closet quite easily. I also make a mess of my vanity when getting ready in the morning so I spend the time making sure this is back to normal at least once a week. Otherwise it gets out of hand. I also take the time to organize our large load of movies that's in alphabetical order. (No I don't alphabetize them all every week, I just put the ones that were watched or borrowed that week, back in their places).

FRIDAY: This is kid's day!

SATURDAY: Clean your bathrooms! (I'm going to be honest and tell you straight up that I have NEVER cleaned a toilet. And my husband is OH SO gentle of a creature to do this for me on Saturdays:) So I take the time this day to prepare for Sunday. I pack our church bag, I get out our church clothes, I prepare for Sunday Dinner, and we get to bed early.

SUNDAY: Have a candlelight family dinner. Our day of rest.

That's it! Okay, not COMPLETELY. It's not QUITE that easy, but pretty close!

Here's my tips and add-ins for keeping up on your house!

* Empty dishwasher EVERY morning, first thing before breakfast or anything else.

*Fill the dishwasher throughout the day. No need for a full sink.

*My kids do their daily chores and keep up on their bedrooms. I DON'T do it for them.

*Read my scriptures daily, and pray daily. Have family prayer at least once a day. This seems to be the most important step in making my day successful.

*Start the dishwasher before bed and wipe down kitchen counters before bed.

*Sleep tight. And get a good amount of sleep. Because even ONE task is hard to do if you're exhausted.

*Don't forget to turn on some music while cleaning! My kids wont do their chores without it!

Keep in mind that if you miss a day, it's OKAY to wait till next week, you wont die. Or just switch two days that week. I just got back from a little vacation and had to catch up on laundry A-SAP. It happens sometimes. Dont lose motivation because you miss a day or two.

Now go and plan your daily chores to your liking,

and enjoy your house and a home.

{Princess Polly Pocket Cupcakes}

My daughter wanted one of those 'Barbie' cakes where you stick the barbie down the middle and make the dress the cake. She kept changing her mind on what princess she wanted as her barbie, and I finally realized that I didn't want to BUY any barbies and that she already had all the princesses in PollyPocket size. Well it's a done deal and so EASY! They ended up being SO much easier than I thought it was going to be! They're so small that there's room for mistakes!

*So I started out by using THIS marshmallow fondant recipe. SO simple.

*Then match your fondant to the color of dress. (I just used the standard cheap primary dropper food colors).

*Then take scotch packing tape and tape the princess's skirts as tight as you can (like above)

*Then bake your cupcakes. (make sure to fill your cupcake batter in each cup at 3/4 full. If you do 2/3 it will turn out flat)

*Next stick your princesses each in one cupcake. I took a paring knife and stabbed straight down the center of the cupcake(where the princess will go) a few times in different directions to create some 'give' so you can stick your princess in the cupcake.

*Now roll out your fondant in a 'somewhat-circle' bigger than your handish :)

*I did Cinderella first and I made a tiny circle the size of my pinky nail and then I cut a line out from it. *This is where you want to STOP and NOT DO THIS! INSTEAD of making a tiny circle. JUST DO THE LINE straight out from the center.

You'll see on Cinderella that you can peep down her skirt. If you just do a line, then the fondant will wrap around nicely :) Wrap the excess in the back so it looks like a train and then trim the bottom edges if needed. (two of mine didn't need to be trimmed)

I used edible glitter to spice things up a bit. It worked best by dipping my (clean and dry) finger in the glitter and then softly rubbing it on.

candlesticks and nerds

Okay! I'm laying it all out there. I've had ceiling shelves for 3 years (since we moved into this home) and I FINALLY decorated it! (Que applause)

On the far right is an old crate box a friend gave me. It's SO MUCH CUTER in person than what it looks like in these pictures. (I really promise)

But the candlesticks I wanted to share because they're SO easy to make.

All you do is take a 4x4 post and cut it down to the sizes you want your candlestick's height. Then take a 2x6 board and cut it into 6" squares for the tops and bottoms. You double screw on the tops and bottoms and paint as desired.

My dad did the honers of soldering the edges of my tops and bottoms, but it's not necessary.

{OH! And the decor balls I got at Walmart for $5. Regularly $15...GREAT DEAL}

Then if you'll allow me to introduce to you, my new heart . . . this dear antique trunk that was actually used for traveling many many MANY years ago, and was GIVEN to me...for FREE.

Drop JAW now. Say WHAA??? I know.

She GAVE it to me. I paid NOTHING. I'm still registering it in my brain. I look at it all day and it is adored deeply by me. May I never part from you from this day forth.

I've been busy helping my sister, who recently moved into their newly built home, with many many many projects...

building, painting,

distressing, sanding, antiquing,

mod-podging, hammering,

gluing, leveling, decorating...

Today's project consisted of a very old door, with it's original knob. A piece of crown molding to create dimension and shelving.

And photos of her beautiful family.

It resides right above the stair case (which consisted of a ladder and 2 woman afraid of heights). But it was worth it. What a great center piece of her home.

Hello Cuegly crowd. I wanted to take 2 seconds and share something special with you. I grew up in a very small town of 408 people, which may or may not have included cattle count, but that's not the special part. I had the opportunity of going to school and being great friends with the lady talking in the video below. (When I say going to school, I mean preschool-senior graduation, and being neighbors and having slumber parties). She's talented (extremely) and she teamed up with two of her very talented sisters for Breast Cancer Awareness. I'll never forget the day when I heard the news that my dear friend's mother had passed away after fighting this disease for years.

It might be a great chance for you to hear great music and see the awesome hand made jewelry they're selling for the October's month of Beast Cancer awareness. Take a look and listen.

75 Kid Activities

In June, after my little brother's wedding, it hit me that it was summer and I knew we had to make the most of it. I sat down with my kids and we made a LOOOONG list of 75 things to do before the summer was up. (granted, some of these are still INDOOR activities).

And THANK HEAVEN'S for Pinterest, so that my searching for activities was made easy! (I took most the pictures, tho a few I googled because I just forgot to take any while we were playing. But we are OFFICIALLY DONE with our LIST! And I wanted to share some easy fun ideas!

Our favorite activities we did multiple times.

(I made the pics mini, because there's SEVENTY FIVE of them, but if you click on them, it will show up full size!)

1: Glow sticks in the bathtub. (I had to cover the window with a blanket).

2: Writing your ABC's with licorice strings. (A fav)3: Photo shoot. Any mom can have a photo shoot with their children.4: Cloud watching. I had to make two. And it teaches your kids the correct name of the cloud.5: Fossil Digger. They have dino bones at the Dollar Tree. Burry them, and get your paint brushes ready to dust away dirt.6: Sponge Finger painting. Cut and soak up ANY sponge. I used makeup sponges I already had.7: Mini rainbow volcanoes.8: Make a book + illustrations. I folded it and got it ready. They started writing/drawing.

9:Balloon tennis. We got free paint stick stirrers at Walmart and used our 'personality balloons' found below.

10: Ding Dong Ditch w/a gift. Anyone neighbor you choose.
11: Teach diversity with eggs. We're all the same on the inside remember?
12: Teach about the moon phases with Oreos. Then get you each a mug-a-milk ;)
13: Hand shadows and other objects. This also helps my kids be less scared of the shadows in their room at night.14: Plastic sheet cover your homework sheets=dry erase. I have purchased quite a few preschool/kindergarten activity books and I've been scanning the pages so I can print them off anytime I want. This is CHEAPER and more effective. I LOVE it. (quite church, and car drives are easier).15: Puppet show. I want to make this doorway puppet theater so bad. Hopefully soon. We just tipped out kitchen table over and used brown paper bag puppets :)16: Shave with daddy. With popsicle sticks of course. (my kids used my pink leg shaving cream:)

17: Play angry birds on the nook. (This was a mandatory pick, obviously by my kids)18: Pick any animal day. Pick ANY animal and teach them everything you can find about it. We've done Cheetah and ostrich. 19: Play hotel. You can play ANY 'pretend' game, but my kids love to put mints or chocolates on their pillows with flowers, and vacuum the room. (I'm soaking up every moment while they're young enough to think that cleaning is fun).
20: (wow this picture is small). Make Japanese chain cut outs. The kids will be amazed that they're all connected. (I tried to make the people holding hands, and FAILED. The hearts were easier).21: Create a silly holiday. I got this particular idea from my S.I.L. We made August 20th our annual donut day.
22: Floating raisins. We've all done this, but I have to be honest the kids weren't THAT into it.
23: Blow up a balloon with vinegar and B.S. YES, the kids LOVED this one.
24: Grab your nets and go Creature Catching! We caught a frog, a praying mantis and a dragon fly all in one day.
25: Helping cook. Doing grown up things is funner than kid things right? Of course be cautious in age and working around hot stoves and knives.
26: Make pony bead necklaces! My son loved this just as much as my daughter. (or pasta necklaces, tho ours always break.) And twice we've made fruit loop necklaces to bring and eat during church.27: Water paints are cheap and fun (for adults too).28: Lava floor. Dont touch the floor to survive.
29: Harry marker mirror faces.30: Melted crayon hot rocks. My sister showed me this technique.
31: Teach and learn smallest to biggest. Have them organize objects like toys, blocks and talk about sizes. Most kids dont even learn this before school.32: Go camping :)33: Messless Makeup. I took empty makeup containers and pored in fingernail polish. My daughter still thinks it's real, and I dont have to clean up any messes.34: Balloon Characters. Draw a face and then name them. (WARNING: your kids will be crushed if these ones pop, tears MAY BE SHED).35: INDOOR Picnic. Make sure to use a NON favorite blanket ;)36: Play School. Learn while playing? okay.37: Make a band. My kids LOVE to make noise. Not recommended while husband is sleeping from working a night shift ;)38: Write and make letters to family members. use LOTS of stickers.39: Teach you kids about the world.40: Teach your kids about outer space.

41: Exercise. I pretend to be their instructor, or I just put in a workout dvd. It's like playing follow the leader but while building muscles.

42: Make an obstacle coarse with crape paper streamers. I used our hallway. They crawl and step over all of it while trying not to touch the streamers.43: Act out a story. You dont need great costumes for this. Our bedtime stories come to life with T-shirts and sweaters. (wolf and lil Red below).

44: Make Dino fossils out of play dough and toy dinosaurs. Imprint and then let it dry.

45: Go to a fish hatchery and feed the fish bread :)46: Fly a kite. We did this a 100 times this summer. We went through quite a few plastic kites. Next year I'll be making fabric kites (with the left over kite sticks from the broken ones).
47: Make a Japanese Hanging Fish :) A big catch.48: Have a Tea Party. Mini foods and mini cups are a hit with BOYS AND GIRLS.49: Play dress up. See what your kids come up with. WINK~

50: Go geocaching. My kids love 'treasure hunting' and BEG to do this EVERY single day. One of our favorite family activities.
51: Blow Wish Flowers. (AKA: dead dandelions). Or go Dandelion picking with baskets.52: Make popsicle stick puzzles. Storing a puzzle in a rubber band is brilliant enough I think. (using a photo is fun too)53: Make GIANT bubbles. Poke a hole in the bottom of a paper cup, or cut off the bottom of a water bottle. Dip. Blow. 54: Go swimming. My kids both did GREAT this year. We over came some MAJOR water fears.55: Color-Trace Leaves. If you haven't done this before...get to work.

56: Hand Print Art. Elephants, flowers, lions, reindeer, turkeys etc... it's endless.

57: Ice cube paint. Freeze water and food color in ice trays. Freeze with a toothpick or popsicle stick. Go outside if it's warm and enjoy some cold painting.
58: Play Mail Man. (with the mail you wrote and decorated earlier)

59: Go on a hike. Or run on a hike...

60: Make homemade lava lamps. Thanks to my friend Jess who taught me.61: Mini Marshmallow construction. Give them toothpicks and you've got a good hour of down time.62: Make mini bun pizzas. This way your kids can decorate their own.63: Paint and Roll Marbles. (Or in our case, hungry hippo balls)64: Make cookies. Let them do everything but work with the oven. Make matching aprons if your ambitious! (I got the kids aprons at the dollar store;)65: Potato stamps. (A fav)
66: Make a pinecone bird feeder. You'll enjoy the fruits of your labor all summer while bird watching.
67: Make and Play Play Dough.

68: Go through a car wash. (And if your in our family, tell scary stories:) This is a new major high-tech car wash in our area...
69: Have a water sprayer fight! recommended outdoors;) (also good to fill up with 1/4 vinegar and give your kids toothbrushes to clean the base boards...Yes I'm aware of child labor laws, but for now...it's a game to them)70: Scavenger Hunt. (A fav)71: A picnic. A regular one. Nothing's better than a spot of shaded grass on a hot day.
72: Build a fort! I wanted to post this one for inspiration because my blanket forts weren't picture worthy. My kids LOVE watching movies in a fort tho.
73: Write and send snail mail to loved ones. (That blue flying eagle is considered snail speed now thanks to the internet).74: Tear drop volcanoes. Put baking soda on a tray. Fill paper cups with vinegar and food color. Use a dropper to create fizzy foam!75: (no pic) Go Dollar Store shopping. Give them each 5 bucks and they're in heaven.

I LOVE Pinterest. Mainly for reasons as such. My first born started Preschool yesterday and I got to document it in a cute manner! I'm planning on making a scrapbook binder with every year documented all the way to SENIOR for each child!

I got this idea at Pinterest...but with my own zang. he's a handsome fella is he not? And yes, he asked me when he could give looooong kisses. I told him when he's married. And yes he prayers every night that Jesus will not have to die again. He's full of love.

Green

I've gone green. I'm a proud greeny. Green is the new me. (granted I dont have a green thumb, I even kill bamboo, but I DO have a very nice rock garden). But Chemicals are sparse in my home. I think Ajax is the only non-green cleaning product in my home, and it's about to be replaced as well.

I wanted to post this because 1: I need to have it all in one spot and 2:In case you were interested and wanted to join me.

So here is what I'm up to:

*~I clean my own carpets like she did HERE.

*~I keep pests away like this gardener foud HERE. (Even tho I dont have a garden, but I do have bugs, and it has worked).

*~I rip my pores clean like SO.

*~I sweat in my pits. It runs in my family. No this is not a remedy to stop you from sweating. (I've heard that's actually dangerous, but that's for another time) This remedy is from keeping your white shirts from turning yellow, it's quite useful and found HERE.

*~I made homemade spearmint and cinnamon toothpaste, with THIS awesome recipe.

*~I made my own Hand Sani. Seriously.

*~I made a detergent for my DISHwasher. I found the recipe HERE... And was also introduced to a NEAT container I found at walmart for $5 and I use it also for my laundry detergent.

*~Laundry detergent found HERE.

*~I found an AMAZING WEBSITE that shares 25+ household green recipes. My favorites are the All Purspose Cleaner, the hard Floor Cleaner.

*~THIS website I love, and now I spring clean my children's old pee stained mattresses (they're potty trained NOW) And FINALLY feel like they're sanitary.

*~I unclog drains, like SO. (actually I keep them from clogging and do this once a week after Josh deep cleans the bathrooms...LOVE that man)

I completely rely on Baking Soda, Vinegar, Vaseline, and Hydrogen Peroxide every day for different uses. And next summer I'll be trying a homemade Bug Spray found HERE. It calls for essential oils that I dont have. But soon I'll be posting more about essential oils and their amazingness found HERE. I'm deeply in love and dependent on 3 oils already...and I ONLY HAVE 3 oils...so I know they're good.

We've saved some bucks going green because bottles of these remedies cost pennies and we're seeing the results...both in cleanliness AND in our wallets. This is 'Going Green With Lindsay' signing out.

My son turned 5 this summer. He's in love with super hero's (as much of a cliche' as that is)

So he started out the day with Hulk syrup...

His super hero guests arrived at 1 to the super hero headquarters!

I realize that it looks homemade and kinda funny...But in all reality it ended up being more along the lines of THIS commercial, and would recommend trying THIS tutorial if you see a pinate' in your near future.

But what was more funny that the pinata was when

DH got hit in the 'tenders' during the pinate batting practice.

The FIRST Infinity Crystal to the treasure hunt was found in the pinata!

(You have to be a true super hero squad fan to know what an infinity crystal is)

Obstacle Course preparation center:

After we found all the Crystals, they each took them safely and swiftly through the obstacle course and into the treasure box to keep them away from DR.DOOM!

DR. DOOM showed up to steal the crystals!

(My husband is a GREAT sport)

I TOTALLY remember playing with grenade water balloons when I was little!

The destruction of DR. DOOM was even more successful with our

silly string/ spider webs

The spider web in the eye is what REALLY took him down!

We celebrated with Captain America cupcakes, and Hulk JUICE!

If you've missed me, I'm so sorry for my absence. It's been a busy summer with a wedding, and a couple funerals and camping and family time. There's a few things I want to share, so I'll be posting when I can. I can promise you that. Slowing down the blog is mandatory at the moment. And I'll keep you posted. So here's an easy tutorial that EVERYONE needs to get their hands on!

I made this top for my daughter after I saw THIS TUTORIAL!

It was a MUST do.

Besides the fact that I've been needing to update my kiddos pictures. It was motivation to get the shirt AND the photoshoot done! It's SUCH an easy top! The only thing I changed besides the color of course, was that I criss crossed the straps in the back and had them button in the back.

She loves ruffles as much as I do.

I even made her a fabric flower bib necklace

and a stretchy headband for the photo shoot.

I'm feeling kinda awesome.

I love stripes.

on EVERYTHING...even my nails.

And thought they looked even more awesome next to my yellow "speed racer" glasses

(that's what my husband calls them)

But besides painting my nails for my brother's black/white wedding, I wanted to let you know that this next week and a half involves a funeral for my grandmother, and a wedding. It's a busy heartfelt week that I get to spend dearly with family. I'll see you when I get back from traveling out of town for the next little while. Enjoy yourself.

Let me explain...

A lovely quote right? Well, I thought so. I've been thinking about where to put this in my home, I love it a lot. It's been on my mind lately every since I saw it. Well, here's the story, and I'm ashamed to share it...but alas...

I was on Facebook, and a friend of mine posted an inspirational quote about family. I was like AH! I know a good one too! So I shared this quote with her and all her friends to see...

What I love most about my home, is who I share it with.

Well, I got a message back from her saying...

"uhhhhhh...Linds?"

So I went back on her Facebook page to see what's up, and noticed my single error. When I shared the quote with her, I forgot to place the 'M' in home, making it a 3 letter word that changed the ENTIRE quote.

MORAL: dont always count on spell check.

In a nutshell, I've been celebrating my husbands birthday, spending every spare moment on pinterest, and thoroughly enjoying the rain :0)

I LOVE rain. I love the sound of it, the smell of it, I love running in it, and I absolutely LOVE snuggling my husband while listening to it.

Pants to Shorts {exchangeable patch}

I'm just getting ready for summer and sometimes when your kids are large (like my 4 year old wear 8-10 and my 2 year old wearing 5-6) you have to get frugal and creative with their clothes. Or just surrender to emptying out your wallet. It's really that simple.

So here's the beginner jeans:

I cut a little below the knee...
And rolled...
(then ironed)

then I took 3 different colors of card stock to make a pattern for the patches.

Then I stitched on some velcro...
I made exchangeable patches with velcro as well...
We did this in the AM, so my daughter is trying to look lively. She loves center of attention so it wasn't hard for this little one to pose...

Yes, she's only two...

And I HAD to make something for the 4th this year!

{Okay...so center of attention can get boring sometimes}

We're NOW ready for summer!

Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo gets me through my week. So when I saw THIS article on pinterest, I about tripped over my pantyhose. I know some people use baby powder, but I just cant. {I swear by THIS product} So I'll go check out this handmade recipe and also let you check it out, but I'm hoping to do a review on the recipe soon to let you know how it goes. I'm skeptical and hopeful.

YOYO WEEK {DAY 7!}

I took a bib Necklace that I already had and cut out a felt shape to match!

I turned these circles into...

yoyo flowers.

Added one more.

Then I glued on some ivory fabric to cover up some of the pink because I'm going to start adding some rolled up lace and fabric...like so...

More rolled up fabric and lace...

Just hot glue it all :)

Then I added some fanned out lace on the left corner...

Then I glued on some lace for the neck tie.

And enjoyed my new bib necklace...

YOYO WEEK {DAY 6}

I got this shirt at Target for my daughter's summer wardrobe. My kids grow so fast that buying an new wardrobe EVERY SEASON takes massive chunks out of your wallet. So we go cheap.

Like...THIS cheap...

I made some yoyo's our of the grey double pin stripe fabric that I used and loved HERE.

But i couldn't decide if I wanted the flowers

or here...

But I did know I wanted to add a ruffle cap sleeve. Here is one sleeve cut out and one sleeve ruffled

Here they are both measured and ruffled.

And here's my daughter sporting her new tank :)

p.s. She refused to wear the jean shorts that go with it, and she also had to wear her pink water shoes. I figured you wouldn't mind so much.

But I just LOVE grey and yellow together! It's a fav of mine :)

And I baby pop bellies :)

This is a purse that looks quite decent from here. And with a blaring camera flash that diminishes all the stains on the ivory white slate, it almost looks normal. But trust me...this purse has stains.

So to cover those stains, I went BIG.

Big circles, big stitches, (big salad bowl for a pattern).

5 different sizes :)

And then stitch them on good and tight, but these are BIG so make a couple stitches around the flower so it doesn't sag...

No more stains :)

I think this hair piece would rock the casa, if I wasn't wearing my husband's grey shirt for bedtime. But hey :)

You can go crazy with hair flowers. You've already seen me do many different variations of fabric hair flowers, and these are super fun and near the top of my list! You can do wild, or classic, or girly, or vintage...just do YOUR style and have fun.

These frames and polka-dot yoyo's excite my insides a little. But what's even better, is I found these frames at the Dollar Tree. Seriously. And lets not forget that I didn't even purchase this polka-dot fabric (NO I didn't steal it) A friend gave me a few bags of fabric (serious. again.) and what a perfect match for these frames!

I did the LARGE stitch yoyo's and added a button or two...

Then hot glued them onto my $1 frames.

And can you guess where these babies are headed?

To a wedding reception.

Because spending $3 on a wedding gift is legal. (So I've heard)

YAY! We're up and running again. Did anyone else about have a heart attack when blogger quit? No? Me neither.

anyway...

I saw these yoyo thumbtacks at the Pottery Barn and fell.in.love.

What great vintage vibes flow from these mini cutenesses. But, alas, I'm in no need of thumbtacks. Magnets it is...

So I started out by cutting 20 different circles with 20 different fabric scraps. The cut pieces came out to be about 3 and 3/4"

I did a big stitch this time, unlike DAY 1's smaller stitching.

They came out to be about the size of a thread roll top.

Then glue magnets on the back! (or thumbtacks :)

Then thoroughly enjoy your vintagey fridge, or locker, or in my case, for the photoshoot, a serving tray:

Cheap {virtually free} and SO easy.

YOYO WEEK {DAY 1}

CUFF BRACELETS!

First of all. What is a yoyo? I'm new to them even though they've been around for decades! But I've fallen in love. So I'm doing a YOYO WEEK with 7 different yoyo projects in 7 different days!

You dont know how to make a yoyo? Go HERE. Where you learn that the smaller the stitch the bigger the center hole, and the bigger the stitch the smaller the center hole.

I usually make about 10 stitches and then pull the needle through, like so...

I used this 5" wide yellow bowl as my pattern, and the flower ends up being a little smaller than half of you circle pattern.

Make 4 of them with small stitches and then fill the centers in with a different fabric, like this green burlap I glued in...

Attach the four yoyo flowers to a strip of felt and slightly over lap them depending on your wrist size (this is a stretchy elastic, because I was going to try and make it a stretchy bracelet, but decided against it, so use felt). Then glue a piece of fabric over the strip of felt to hold it in place.

Now glue down the overlapped yoyos.

(overlapping depending on your Wrist Size)

Front:

Now glue on velcro dots on the ends...

TADAH!

I truly love this bracelet.

And I made more...

And then I made a corsage bracelet...

so I feel like I'm at my high school prom all over again ;)

love it right?

I glued them on a bigger piece of felt and made straps for the velcro dots...

D.I. DEVISE LINK UP PARTY!!!

Here I am. It's D.I. Devise time right?

So...I'm going to wait with pure love in my heart and patience in my soul to see if anyone links up. That's what I'm going to do. Truly.

But until then, let's see what I devised shall we?

It's a skirt...

the length of the Eiffel Tower...and cost me $3.

And it may have survived the 70's and maybe even Pioneer time. I'm not sure.

But it IS handmade. I cut off the top row of lace and off came the strap ties as well.

I now resewed the top a pretty little hem. (This skirt is two layers, so i had to keep and sew the under layer with it as well so that the lace wasn't see through. You see, I'm a modest gal).

Here's the silky under layer...quite comfy.

And I ended up adding stretch elastic to the back side hem so that it fit snug up top like a tube top.

And here, my friends, is the Skirt to Dress...

And of coarse added a cardigan, because...like I said. I'm a modest gal.

PB inspired {Chalkboard Napkin Rings}..

1: I think it's so weird when people call Pottery Barn 'PB.' The first thing that comes to mind, is that someone made something out of Peanut Butter. But alas...I gave in.

2: I've never been a big fan of Chalkboard paint. I know I know. I'm a pen fan through and through. I love the neat dark lines that dont make messes. I guess I should say I dont love chalk. But alas, I gave in...

I was at a D.I. in a big city (always fun), and I got 8 rust orange napkin rings. They had great shape and of coarse even BETTER potential...so here we go!

I first saw these at Pottery barn and knew I wanted them!

First, paint in the inside of the napkin rings with your chalkboard paint. (which will look navy blue) and let it ~~somewhat~~ dry and then add another coat of paint.

Paint the edges well and let them dry...

Paint a little over half of the fronts and set them down to dry where there isn't paint.

YAY! Black! (and almost dry)

Once they've dried, glue some Jute Twine on the inside like so...

Then glue it to the front where the black starts on one side...

Now pull it through! (dont glue it-dont worry about glueing the underneath strips except for the string ends of coarse).

And glue on the 2nd strip. Then pull it through again and continue!

I glued jute onto a little over half of the napkin ring so that you can see the twine when a napkin is in it.

TIP: keep your glue minimal. You dont need a big strip of glue for each wrap of string. You dont want glue showing and it will REALLY REALLY show if you over do it)

DONE!!!

Now invite some guests!

And have fun!

You can use it for holidays or special occasions, or birthdays, or sunday dinners, or dinner for two...

You can even leave chalk on the table so that your guests can send notes back and forth to each other.

TIP: I would LOVE to get a chalk pencil to cure my neat line obsession. But I bought a pack of 16 large crayon-shaped-chalks at the $1 store. They worked quite well.

Ruffle Soda Shop Girl {tutorial}

Want to have an AT HOME PHOTO SHOOT with your daughter???

Cut out an old shirt or just use a piece of fabric that matches your ribbon. This is the front peice and should measure about 12" wide and 10" high.

Start adding your ruffled ribbon with hot glue.

keep going...

and going...

done!

Ruffled Ribbon is really twisty and hard to manage, so I draw a couple inch line of hot glue and then I pull apart the ribbon (like below) and push down into the glue. Keep doing that!

Here's the two fronts I have made for the lil girl.

This scarf was on clearance at Walmart, regularly $5 for $1. But a friend gave it to me so I paid $0. Cut out a 14" wide by 9" high piece of fleece (to keep the little girl somewhat warm during her photo shoot). The reason it's only 9" high instead of 10" like the front is because when you ruffle the front it shrinks down in size.

Attach and sew the fleece onto the ruffled front. I always had one end of my ruffles that misbehaved more than the other so I would sew the fleece onto THAT side to hold em in place.

Now turn your OTHER ruffled side over and hot glue on velcro dots down the edge...

Now take your fleece end and hot glue on velcro dots (lined up with your first row) so that you can velcro the outfit around the girl. Notice 3 lines of velcro on the fleece so that it's adjustable (hence the 14" wide fleece)

Sew a strip of fleece for the straps and put two ruffles on each strap...

Make the straps adjustable too...

Now doll up your girl, add a fabric background

and start snapping!

She's gorgeous right? But isn't this girl so chunky and squeezable!? She's not mine, but I'd claim her any day!

BowTie {tutorial}

The Easter Bunny always brings fancy shmancy church clothes for my kiddos. And this year he spiced things up a bit.

Mr. Bunny took this old tie...

And cut it right where the straight skinny part started...

(and set the skinny part aside).

Then Mr. B. unpicked the big part of the tie

and took out the white fabric

And folded it in half to get two sides of the new bow tie...

And then cut out a rectangle...

Mr. B. drew a bow tie shape to the desired size!

(but he folded it the other way {inside out} before he drew on the tie of coarse)

Now he sewed along the line...but leaving this part open...

Now if you turn it right side in...

(and cut and place some of the cut out white fabric right back in)

All you'd have to do is hot glue the opening (yup...the Bunny is THAT lazy)

Then you can take the skinny piece of tie that Mr. B. had set aside.

But put the back side out for texture.

Then Mr. B. cut and hot glued the loop in the back.

Now take the rest of the skinny part of the tie and measure the boy's neck and cut to desired length. And then sew or glue onto back of tie.

Mr. B. made it adjustable (by first folding and sewing the cut end) and then glueing on velcro dots.

Thank you Mr. Easter Bunny for making my son so dang handsome...

And very very happy...

Bath Bombs {and a recipe}

I have an obsession. I don't believe it's curable simply because this obsession runs in my family.

I LOVE. TO BATHE.

It's my personal "time out." I have a wonderful husband who makes me a bath 2 to 3 times a week. (ridiculously spoiled).

I get bubbles. I get candles. I get a book. I get peace.

And just the sight of these make me melt with fizzy pleasure...

Did you know they're great gifts?! Even Easter!

(although, spare your kids, they may not get as excited as yourself)

And party favors...

I hate that bath bombs are so expensive. Even the ones I find at Ross or T.J's are expensive. So I searched, (after a DUH thought came to me) and I found a very reliable RECIPE on the web. (Even in the comments below the recipe, it shows other trials from other people and has they're photos!) I think I'm going to get RIGHT on this!

What's cool is you can buy different molds or you can use one of these. Or if you want to be brilliant, like in the recipe I posted, she used old christmas tree ornaments that are meant to put candy in.

And you can even find starter kits!

It's exciting! They're SO MUCH cheaper and funner to make! I can pick a relaxing one or a sleepy one, or a calming one. I'm excited here. Christmas gifts this year maybe?

p.s. so my oldest read a whole book yesterday for the first time (granted it was a kindergarten book, but still) I got a little emotional. He hasn't even started preschool yet. A great mommy moment...shared with a few happy/sad mixed feeling tears.

Chore Chart Ideas! (and a jar)

{AND BONUS LISTENING CHART}

Remember THIS chore chart fail? SO frustrating! So I started all over from scratch! I started by grabbing a couple of these silver serving platters at the Dollar Store.

(those are little tiny magnets on the tray I'm going to be using)

Then I printed out pictures of chores, such as:

*brush your teeth

*pray

*homework

*dishes

*read your scriptures

*help with dinner

*vacuum

*clean room/make bed

I mod podged the pictures onto the glass rocks, and glued magnets on with jewelry glue adhesive...

(p.s. if you wanted to go cheaper, you could print the pictures out on card stock and laminate them. Even if you just use clear packing tape to laminate. And THEN glue on the magnets.)

I sprayed the trays black and mod podged scrap paper to the base.

One for a girl...

One for a boy...

Place your magnets...

Seperate the 'to dos' and 'dones' with something creative,

like baseballs and mits...

Or glammed gem stones...

For him...

For her...

BONUS CHART TIME!

So I couldn't think of how to use "listening and obeying" as a chore.

So I made a separate chart!

And came up with this...

With 3 pictures of my daughter...

And 3 pictures of my son...

And I printed off 6 frowney faces

(and I 'at home laminated' them with packing tape)

And put magnets on the back with some more jewelry adhesive.

And this is what happens when they dont obey...

(when they get three, something gets taken away)

Although, lets stop kidding ourselves, it usually looks like this...

The slates get wiped clean every day and the kids LOVE to do chores now. Seriously.

Being able to move a magnet has officially made chores something to look forward to.

We intertwine the bean jar with our charts so that they have something even MORE to look forward too (instead of just moving a magnet).

They get to add beans during the day or, take away beans depending on their actions. When the beans reach a BLACK ribbon line, they get a prize!

I had completely forgotten about this process until my sister reminded me and it totally helped my little problem of finding rewards. It's perfect!

From bottom to top the prizes are:

*Ice Cream Cone

*Dollar Store Prize

*Lunch at Mcdonalds

*Hop To It' Party (an inflatable land-party place)

So this house is officially ready to rumble. By combining these charts and my jedi mom skills, we may have some success.

RUFFLE Revamp Lamp Shade...{eeek!}

I was super happy when I found this lamp for $4 at the D.I! It's so hard to find one in such GREAT shape. But here's the thing...

...although baby pink gingham is adorable, I have absolutely no rooms to go with it.

I taped off the inner edges...

That ball of plastic is packing tape. I had to get a little creative so that no paint touched the inside of the lamp shade.

I sprayed the outside of the shade brown and while it dried

I cut 2.5" strips of brown flannel.

And straight stitched down the center of each so I could pull and ruffle it :)

YAY for ruffles!

Here's the first ruffle...looking kinda like a garter.

I have to be honest...There's a lot of ruffle lamp shades out there, and I want one so badly, but I was so afraid it was going to turn out to be a wreck!

A big Craft FAIL.

but I kept going...

(for the edges I glued one edge to the shade like so...)

(and then folded the other edge under {into a ruffle shape}

and glued it down to the other edge)

Here's ruffle # 2! Starting to feel a little better here. (Worried I would run out of ruffle strips or that this would start looking trashy...but it just kept getting better!)

I just cant tell you! (takes breath) I'm excited.

I'm on cloud 87 here. And I'm not coming down any time soon.

The lamp base had absolutely NO dents or scratches or any sign of wear n' tear.

So I didn't touch it. It's perfect the way it is...

Light's on! And feeling so fabulous!

This shall be gracing the master bedroom. My husband and I have been wanting a bed lamp for...AGES. My husband and I 'paper-rock-scissors' each night to see who's turn it is to get up and turn that light off. (I seem to always win that game). But now I can just stay up longer and read ;)

D.I. Devise Part 2 {No Sewing}

Early 90's to Urban

This rendition is an example of how to see potential in the clothes hanging on the rack without having to SEW it later. It's possible, but not always. So keep a keen eye out!(PART 1 FOUND HERE)

I got this dress for $5 at the D.I. It screamed early 90's with its floral pattern and the absence of any shape. It didn't even have a string or tie to give it shape. Just two big pockets on your waist!

Let's take a closer look at this pattern...

(Yes...90's with some potential I'm thinking).

So I took it home. {instantly removed the shoulder pads}

And this is what happened...

The belt and cardigan are crucial main factors here.

I can add a belt to almost any outfit for a makeover! But I must add that I personally think that EVERYONE NEEDS a nice cardigan in their wardrobe. This outfit wouldn't exist without the cardigan.

But the hat is totally up to you!

IDEA: Now if this dress was long, I would have cut and hemmed it to make it this length. You have to ponder and see its potential while thrift shopping. Dont take it as is.

Whenever someone asks me where I shop, I bluntly straight up tell them I'm a D.I. thrift shopper! All my friends know I shop there, and they ask me over and over "how????"

Well, I dont know if you've noticed my new button in the side bar...

but I'm starting a new lil somthin called...

So that I can share 'how' exactly.

I'll be taking something like this...

(I have no makeup on, and BED-HEAD in this pic,

AND my husband took this picture growlin at me so I'm trying not to laugh)

And turning it into something like this...

I'll give a tutorial of coarse, and model before and after for you. But I'm also wondering if I'd like to make it into a REFASHION LINKY PARTY. Yours doesn't absolutely HAVE to be from the D.I. but mine sure will be! So...prepare yourself, just in case. I just haven't decided what day. I'm thinking like the first of every month. But we shall see. I'll ponder about it.

TUTORIAL:

So this polyester royal jungle robe type thing that I got at the D.I. had a run in it,

like a nylon.

So I KNEW I had to at least cut that part off...

So I did...

Then all I did was add some waist elastic. Sew it in.

(that gold ribbon on the floor has nothing to do with my skirt)

And then place both feet into your new skirt and pull it up!

Let's take a closer look shall we:

Easter is a special holiday to me. It's right up there with Christmas and Independence Day. But I'll be the first to admit that I'm not one to decorate with Easter bunnies and chickadees. I have my easter wreath and we decorate eggs on family night, and that's about it for decor.

Am I really that lame? Well after checking out all these I consider myself so.

After Many Many Fails...

So I've been on a mission the last 5 years or so, to master a few recipes. Granola Bars, Lemon Bars, Choc-Chip Cookies to name a few.

Well, I finally gave up trying other Chocolate Chip cookie recipes (because I have a picky hubby) and I set out to master my own. Yes, create from scratch...without a clue-know-how.

My M.I.L.'s cookies are delicious but I have to have them softer.

My mom's cookies are soft, but hubby HAS to have oats in them!

I've tried combining the two recipes about a million different ways...never worked.

I tried every other recipe,

borrowed online,

from a friend,

a neighbor or

friend of a friend

and it hasn't been perfection yet.

So I went HERE, started learning & playing around.

I literally had 4 different bowls on my counter with 4 different mixtures. And conveniently had the LDS missionaries stop by and these 3 men tested my first batch.

One of the missionaries even said it was the best cookie he's ever had, and that was a trial batch. So what does that say? That I've gotten a big head from this? Possibly yes, and after 5+ years of attempting and ALWAYS FAILING, you would get a big happy head too ok?

And after 4 trials and 3 errors, I must admit, with a smile on my face and a glisten on my brow, that I have created {my husband's} favorite cookie!

Wa ha ha, (in a white lab coat and goggles I laugh).

Now, as I have discovered, every single person's preference is different. But here are my ewey-gooey, chocolate chip, oatmeal cookies...or what I LIKE to call them:

The Heaven Chip Gooey Cookie

ingredients:

1 c. butter softened

3/4 c. brown sugar

1/4 c. white sugar

1 (3.5 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 1/2 c. all purpose flour

2 1/2 c. old fashioned oats

1 tsp. baking soda

1 bag Hershey's milk chocolate chips (or 2 c. M&M's)

directions:

Preheat oven to 350*

Cream butter and sugars

mix in pudding mix, eggs, vanilla

mix in well: flour, oats, and soda

fold in chips

Bake 7-10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Now, they are gooey, so let them cool slightly on the pan before even moving them to a cooling rack. These suckers stay gooey for days!! They almost get better!

(And don't underestimate the milk. It WILL be needed).

You already know my daughter's room theme is 'Paris' but I thought I'd share a few {very} simple makeovers we did.

I found a stack of 3 black frames for $1.50 {for all 3}.

I printed out three simple silhouette pictures on regular computer paper.

Took out the frame's mats, and framed!

I had some left over Christmas beads from THIS project.

(Regularly gold beads, spray painted black)

And added some vintage lace bows...

{I love all 3 of these simple pictures that make a big impact!}

Then hang em up!

That's it for the frames!

When my grandmother passed last year, one of the things I got was a vintage porcelain Christmas jewelry box. I wanted it to be special and something my daughter could keep.

So I mod podged on some stickers I had that I thought worked out quite brilliantly for her bedroom!

And now it's something she can cherish forever from her great grandma.

{A Sheet Music Paper Theme}

I was browsing a beautiful blog called Post Cards and Pretties that has plenty of pretties to look at, and I came across this post about Sheet Music.

Now I KNOW sheet music isn't anything new to you...but I'm currently trying to find as many crafts with sheet music right now because my little brother is getting married and his darling fiance' is having a 'music themed' wedding. And wouldn't it be so adorable (and extremely light in the wallet) to decorate with sheet music? Seriously brilliant!

Handmade Hand Warmers

It's SPRING! {finally} And I wanted my hands to look adorable while I hold my umbrella this year...

I made some lovable fingerless hand warmers...and it was super easy.

So here's a tutorial for you to follow along!

At the D.I. I found three sweaters. All for under $2.

I cut the sleeves...like so...

Here's a few pairs...

Turn them inside out.

Pin it to make it snug on your fingers, but still stretchable.

Pin the wrist the same.

Now, I lost my photo program, so usually I would draw an arrow or circle the pins here I want to point out, but since life isn't always easy, let me explain it...

I now added two more pins to mark the thumb hole.

(These pins are pin#'s 2 and 3 on the gloves below.

You do not want to sew the hole closed!)

Start sewing where we added the very first pin.

And then stop and back-stitch where the frist 'thumb-hole pin' is...

Then start again where the second 'thumb-hole' pin begins.

(We want to leave that thumb hole open)

And sew all the way down the glove where we pinned the wrist.

Here's the stitch...

Now cut it off :)

Now take some of this...

And sloppy-quilt-stitch all the edges...

yup...sloppify it.

(Don't know how to quilt stitch? Go HERE).

Now this is where it gets original and SO exciting...

Add some spice to your new hand warmers! Like lace bows.

Or buttons...

Or flowers...

Fingerless hand warmers are PERFECT for spring!

What your face needs...and what I use.

Make sure you're doing these four things!

But before we go over the 4 basics your skin desperately needs,

you first need to know your skin type. It's important, especially when it comes to the facial products you use. Remember...it's your face we're talking about.

1. Your face needs to be cleansed.

You can find a good cleanser at a drug store, you surely dont need to spend $50 on one. You only need to cleanse at night (in fact it's strongly recommended), water will be just fine to clean with in the morning. My top rated drugstore cleanser is THIS. You can find it for about $6. Right now I'm loving THIS. But dont worry ladies I'm still a faithful grape-seed oil user!

2. Exfoliate.

So many people miss this weekly process. Ya, it's important, but let me give you a little bit of information that scared me into exfoliating every week. Have you ever wondered why men don't age as fast? It's because it's proven that when men shave every day it's exfoliation. And now the world of men look younger than us ladies. I dont know about you, but I jumped on the band wagon! Keep in mind that it's ONLY needed weekly. And I'll say this; I'm a fan of the peels, some exfoliants can feel harsh on skin. I LOVE THIS ONE! And dont think I'll ever switch!

3. Moisturize.

Dont skip over this step if you have oily skin! It's just like when people with oily hair think they need to skip conditioning. Every skin type needs to moisturize. This includes an eye cream if you want one, but don't over moisturize, it will clog your pores. Always listen to your skin. These are some I've loved or am loving...1, 2, 3, 4.

4. SPF.

The number one cause of wrinkles is caused by the sun. Do your skin a favor and use it. I think sunscreen is vital for your whole body and face. There's the argument stating the lack of Vitamin D when you douse yourself in sunscreen. I think we still get enough from the sun, and don't they have Vit D over the counter? (This is where I make sure to state you consult your physician first;) You can find my very very top sunscreen picks HERE.

Toners are overrated and accomplishes nothing more than what these 4 remedies and products will do. But the choice is completely up to you.

Black Paint...

...my first time doing the "crackle effect" with elmer's glue!

Below is what the candle sticks looked like before I started. I was at walmart when I saw this set of 3 on an end isle for $5. (Regularly $21). I snatched 2 sets!

I first sprayed them an ivory white...

Then I followed the Elmer's Glue Crackle Directions, by first painting on Elmer's Glue (a lot) and then immediately painting on the black acrylic paint...

It took FOREVER for it to start crackling, and I was worried I had failed,

but then I saw my very first crackle...

I went to bed to let it finish it's job.

How cool is that? It became rustic without my help!

I took these $2 candles at Walmart...

...and used the same black acrylic paint to make a zebra design.

It's super easy! If you dont think you can do it, just find a zebra print and copy it!

(By now you're probably noticing my angelic white walls ...

that's just great).

Zebra print is the one animal print I just CANT live without.

I have multiple zebra prints throughout my house!
